History of the College
The College of Science is comprised of eight departments--Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Statistics. These departments were previously located in the College of Arts and Sciences, which was established in 1963 and celebrated its fortieth anniversary in 2003. In July 2003, university restructuring created the College of Science.
The College of Science offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in each of its departments, and also offers an undergraduate major in biochemistry in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. A program to prepare students to enter law school in Intellectual Property Law is also offered in partnership with the University of Richmond School of Law.
Whether in basic skills courses in biological sciences, chemistry, economics, geosciences, mathematics, physics, psychology, or statistics or in elective subjects intended to enrich a professional curriculum, every undergraduate student at Virginia Tech takes courses from departments in the College of Science.
