Job Profile

Support landfill construction projects to ensure project design requirements are satisfied with support to the Project Manager for schedule and budget.  Also, provide support to landfill operations relative to environmental compliance requirements of their associated regulations and facility permits.

  • Assist senior personnel in project tasks related to the following areas:  construction management; permitting; environmental compliance; internal/operational programs.
  • Provide support to landfill operations relative to environmental compliance.
  • Assist with gas and groundwater monitoring as well as gas well field monitoring.
  • Assist with the reviews of site plans; health and safety; regulatory reporting
  • Assist with design reviews; and community relations
  • Oversight of engineering consultants with the development of scope and budgets for various design projects associated with facility expansions and upgrades.
  • Assist with multiple construction projects of various size including landfill liner construction, final cover construction, landfill gas systems, utilities and infrastructure
  • Landfill airspace utilization tracking and reporting
  • Performance of regulatory compliance tasks associated with facility permits.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Candidates must have completed their Sophomore year and should be pursuing a four year degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet Explorer and Windows
  • Must have strong verbal and written skills and be well organized
  • Individual needs to be a self-starter with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent competency in ma thematic fundamentals. 
  • Position requires a valid drivers license.

Benefits:

The intern will gain direct experience with consulting engineering jobs, budgeting, data entry and management, landfill gas collection, and landfill operations.  The intern will gain a fundamental understanding of engineering principals involving proper placement and compaction of earthwork.  In addition, there will likely be direct experience gained from the use of geosynthetic products related to landfill capping and/or lining projects.  The intern will become familiar with environmental regulations and their basis for need as well as how Waste Management manages environmental compliance.
