Call for Nominations

 2007-2008 College of Science

Diversity Award

The Diversity Committee of the College of Science invites nominations for the College Diversity Award. This award is to honor faculty and staff in the College of Science who have made significant and sustained contributions that foster diversity at Virginia Tech.  Successful nominees should have taken a leadership role in increasing diversity, improving the climate at VT for diverse groups, and/or educating members of the VT community to appreciate an increasingly diverse society.

Nominees must be:

• Faculty or staff in the College of Science.  A nomination may be made for a group of individuals who have worked together to promote diversity.

Preference will be given to:

• Nominees who have not been recognized previously for their work on diversity.
• Nominees whose contributions to diversity are above and beyond their regular job responsibilities.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Diversity Committee which will make recommendations to the Dean of the College of Science. The awardee will be recognized at an awards event during Spring Semester 2008 with a certificate and a monetary award (deposited to the awardee’s account in their department).

Faculty, staff and students at VT, as well as others in the community, are encouraged to make nominations. Students are encouraged to solicit faculty help in preparing a nomination that best represents the nominee’s contributions to diversity.

The Nominations Packet should include:

•  A nomination letter of no more than one page describing the nominee’s contributions to diversity in the university community at VT.
•  A one page self-statement from the nominee describing his/her efforts and achievements on behalf of diversity.  The names of three individuals who can provide support for the nomination should be included.  (The College of Science Diversity Committee will contact these individuals to learn more about the nominee’s diversity activities).
